30 Paintings in 30 Days: The Sphynx

Today's fantastic beast is the noble and exotic Sphynx.  Scamander describes the Egyptian Sphynx as having a human head on a lion's body, and that for over a thousand years they have been used by witches and wizards alike to guard valuables and secret hideaways. The Sphynx  is a highly intelligent creature who delights over puzzles and riddles, and that they are usually only dangerous when the thing they are guarding becomes threatened.
